Joe walked in the door around 12:30pm today looking pretty worn-out. He said “this open water swimming isn’t really my thing.”
His neck had a red ring around it that looked horribly painful to me… I guess his wetsuit just about choked him during the first swim (so he will need to rent a different one for the Alcatraz swim.) He said the first swim (800M, shorter one) was awful, but that he at least got better at it by the second race (2000M).

He said his shoulders were sore, so he took extra strength Excedrin and headed for the hot shower! :-)

When I first started doing triathlons where I had to wear a wetsuit the same thing happened to my neck. As it healed, honestly it looked like I had tried to hang myself and I had to wear shirts that covered it. I ended up cutting the neck of the wetsuit off. Luckily I never had to wear one much in Fl. And as much as I loved doing tris, I was never in love with open water swims either...guess once a pool swimmer always a pool swimmer!!! Good luck!
