Remember that picture of the big stack of adoption paperwork we had to send in to the USCIS? The I-600 file + the I-485…
Well, I started to get a bit concerned as the check hadn’t been cashed (odd for the government not to cash a big check, right?!) Well, it seems that the USCIS cannot find our paperwork.
There was SO MUCH work put into this file – notaries, doctor appt’s with sealed exams, translations, etc… It makes me sick to think we might have to start from square one. Why do these things happened to us all of the time? I was figuring this paperwork process (in itself) would be a nightmare, but I was at least allowing myself to think the paperwork would actually be reviewed by someone.
After spending about 2 hours on the phone the past 2 days with the USCIS, we are left with nothing but a case number starting with “ETC”… which immediately leaves me feeling like that is the code for “uh-oh” we screwed this one up; there is no real category for it. We sent it certified, so we have the tracking number and KNOW it was delivered… but that really means nothing – if they lost it. It’s not like they are going to hand-over a “free citizenship” badge because they feel bad about it.

Good grief!!! :-(
