Two Updates for Today:
ONE:
Today was LSI Volunteer Day... everyone in the company (worldwide) is encouraged to participate in the local community volunteer event. My team was tasked with planning the Portland event - and so we had planned 2 events for employees to choose from: Oregon Food Bank or a Habitat for Humanity project. I opted for the Oregon Food Bank. Joe was kind enough to drop me off (it was in another part of town) and so I spent a couple of hours bagging apples with about 20 other LSI co-workers. It was a good way to spend time today and I was amazed at the 8,352 lbs of apples we bagged in the short time we were there!TWO:
So, I am not one of these people who believes in portraying perfection because I am afraid to be less-than-perfect (I know I am far from it!) And I also have learned that there is a lot more to be gained in life by being real & honest. So here is honesty and transparency for you:
Joe needed to run some errands during nap time. No problem, right? I had a ton of work to do (some tedious PowerPoint work to get done) so I was consumed with my laptop (and thankful Joe didn't mind running the errands.) Samuel was sleeping, and all was well in the Wilkins household.
All until I hear a crash from Samuel's room, that is.
I run into Samuel's room only to find him WIDE awake, covered in lotion, hand-cleanser and powder. AND better yet he is finger painting with the liquid combination on his dresser. It's everywhere: quilt, clothes, furniture, you name it. He has also opened the CD player and cranked up the volume. Oh and the crash? That would be the lamp.
I was livid! And overwhelmed and I thought to myself: "today officially marks the terrible two's." I did the best I could cleaning up the mess (oh and he also happened to have one of the worst diapers we have seen in weeks!) So I cleaned him up, washed his face… changed his clothes and stripped the bedding. I took away anything that could cause more damage and told him he would not be coming out of his room anytime soon. SIGH.
Shortly after, Joe called asking if I wanted anything from the store… “oranges maybe?” I am thinking… “what? I just told you about a Samuel crisis and you are asking me if I want oranges?! No! I don’t want anything from the store!” ANOTHER SIGH.
So… I felt bad. Bad that reality has hit… bad that I had to get mad at little Sam (he was sobbing when I went in and checked on him... rump in the air, gasping for breath… you know how it goes when they are sobbing…) And I was just down... And then Joe walked in with RED ROSES! He thought I might need them. I do love this husband of mine!
So about 1.5 hours AFTER his normal nap-time... I went in and we had a little chat. We always say "I love you" and he says it back. And then we exchange a kiss. I have no confidence that he actually understood my words of reason (on why we don't smear the lotion on the dresser) but I am hopeful one day he will understand we have to put limits on him - but that we love him more than he will ever comprehend!
I didn't take immediate photos, but did capture some aftermath. (Mostly the photos just capture the "evil" grinning of one mischievous little two-year-old!)
Need I say more? Meet the "Little Angel" himself...
Lotion and hand gel - made it to the sink. This was the finger paint. WONDERFUL combination!
The hand-cleanser and lotion were knocked over. By the time I took a picture, the cleaner was knocked over and out little angel was grinning... as evil as can be!
You will notice the quilt is off... in the washer at this point!
My perception of "my favorite kid" today!
And finally... the roses that made it all OKAY! :-)
Holy cow he is getting big!!! Love the pics, sorry about the mess! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. Sorry about the mess, but what fun he must have had. I love the mug shot, that is great! CBanks
ReplyDeleteI love the prioner picture!!! You are too creative. Ryan is so doing the same stuff! Luckily he is still in his crib and has no desire yet to climb out...knock on wood! But since he has a big sister, I probably do not watch him AS CLOSELY as I should and he has access to markers and paint that normally I would not have given to my first 2 year old! Thus I have a cozy coop that has oodles of green marker on it (no reselling that one) as well as my patio floor! I yelled at him too, and he cried and then went and got a chalk board eraser and tried his hardest to get the marker off. When it would not come off, he looked so disappointed and cried harder. Then I felt so bad b/c his 2 year old mind actually thought through it and felt the marker WOULD come off. They are amazing if we can figure their brains out! PS. have you let him at it with shaving cream in the bath tub...sounds like he would like that! Colored water balloons are another favorite of Ryan's right now and teaches the colors! But they burst them as fast as you can fill them :(
ReplyDeleteMy 2yr old son one day one day during naptime decided to paint his own van goh painting..with red permanent marker allover the wall and himself everywere. He had to go to the dr. for a needle who laughed hysterically about it(by the way permanent marker comes off with alot of dishsoap)and I left the wall painting.I said to hubby there only children once and as long as they havent hurt or poisoned themselves the children will live..dont sweat the samll stuff hell only be little for awhile and alot of parents forget there brains arent like ours there still babies.
