Super Samuel!

We have been so proud of Samuel this week!  He has been a little trooper at school and seems to be figuring this thing out.  He isn’t crying and upset when he gets dropped off anymore and his teachers tell us that he is socializing well and enjoying the activities!  YAY!!!  I think he is learning the routine, getting to know his teachers and starting to enjoy being around other students – all of these things are coming together and making a huge difference.  This takes a load off of our hearts for sure!  Samuel is funny when we pick him up – he knows he needs to wash his hands, dry them off, get his coat and even stops at the water fountain to get a drink on the way out.

We couldn’t be happier with the daycare/school program… They keep the kids busy, happy, stimulated and also discipline them (which I appreciate so much!)  The staff at the school are so positive and we KNOW he is in a good place.

The only issue has been that he is still having “diaper” issues (I don’t want to go into all the details, but those of you walking in our shoes know what I mean…)  We have received two warning phone calls (per policy, which I understand!)  So we requested another stool test kit from OHSU, however my gut tells me it will come back normal, but you never know.  I think these Haiti kids just have a tough time getting to NORMAL.  Or maybe this is just NORMAL for them – it’s so hard to know.  The only context we have is the other Haiti kids – and I don’t think any of them are doing any better.  SIGH…  I cannot wait for him to be potty-trained (which I hear is going pretty well in the classroom!)  However, he has no interest in that area at home right now… even the Elmo toilet doesn’t entice him enough!  J   But I have read enough to know – it’s really not worth pushing the issue, so we will take baby steps for now (but I sure could use that diaper money elsewhere!)
