My Day with My Little Mr. Lukie

I had been "stressing" over today for quite some time... Joe took Samuel to the airshow (another cool story!) and I had a wonderful nanny watching Rachel so that I could spend some 1/1 time with Luke (we have been trying to give the kids some focused attention when we can.)  Luke can be so much fun - but he is also can be a lot of work.  This age with Luke is night/day than what we encountered with Samuel (who has always been very easy-going.)

SIDE STORY TO KEEP IN MIND: I took Luke to the pool the other night and it was a disaster... he was tired (it was after dinner) and just wasn't into being told what to do. So we spent about 20 minutes there and came home.

So... my original plan had been to take Luke to the pool today - but after the other night, I wasn't about to attempt that one again - even though he probably would have done fine (not late at night, after a long day at school, etc...) But I just wasn't mentally up for another potential struggle. So - this had been causing all kinds of anxiousness, given I had no other plan.

However, loooong story short - we ended up having a really good day together! I had both Rachel and Luke in the morning, so we went to the Parks & Rec childcare play area to see if he might want to do that, however, he absolutely was not interested in me leaving him with "strangers", so that was a BUST. So we headed to the playground, which was super in his eyes. We then went to Target, got some gas, picked up a prescription, got the car washed, Starbucks (all the things "drive-thru" I could think of!!!)  Then we went home for some lunch and then he took a short nap.

However, when the nanny showed up, I had no idea what I was going to do... So we got in the car and headed to some friends for a visit, where he was a gem! We enjoyed visiting, played trains and got kissed by some dogs. Afterward, the two of us went on a hike in Washington Park, which was perfect.

I love this kid so much... he is not always the easiest kid, but I guess he is two... AND comes from the DNA of two strong-willed, passionate parents. :-) I pray each night his passion and energy are used for His will and to do good in this world. Because if that is the case - his go get 'em attitude will be awesome! (and if not... we are in trouble!) :-)

  1. Wow, what a fun, full day. Luke looks like he had a fun day with Mom and enjoyed it a lot.
