Kauai: Arrival Day!

It feels SO GOOD to be back on this island again! I just love this place...

And I have to say, I was sort of anxious about the logistics of getting here in one piece. Baby on a plane, dealing with bags, getting everything on the shuttle, etc... But honestly, everything seemed to fall right into place.

For starters, I was upgraded to First Class (huge benefit with room for a baby and not having to share a 3rd seat w/ anyone!) And Rachel could not have been a better baby - she slept, played w/ her toys and just sat nicely on my lap. Samuel was a great kid and a good helper for sure.  I had packed all sorts of creative distractions for them and they seemed to do the trick!  The couple across the aisle even commented about how awesome my kids were - WOW, what a MEGA and HUGE relief - and I mean that with all of my heart...  I had been so anxious about this flight. I was able to get the luggage fine (all those muscles!) The rental car place had the seats in the car and I had no problems getting to our condo (one of the reasons I wanted to go to Kauai, as I know it well!)

When we got to the condo - all was good too! Upgrade on the room (seriously - when does so much goodness happen all at once?!) I am in "Hale 8" in the map below.  I had pre-planned to have a local company drop off some baby items (BOB, toys, etc..) and she showed up right as I was checking in! Friends of mine from PDX had left a bag of AWESOME groceries for me at the front desk (the front desk had a note to give them to me - no issues!) Then a crib and high chair arrived as we were settling into our room... PERFECT.

We then headed off to Keoki's for dinner. It has become our tradition to have dinner on the first night there...  So I decided I certainly wasn't going to break tradition, even though I knew it wouldn't be easy. But again, Rachel did super! After dinner Samuel chased chickens for awhile (that was on his to-do list!)

When we got back, Samuel was desperate to get to the pool, so at dusk, I said, SURE.... I mean, I am not about to be a Debbie Downer on this vacation, right? So we headed for the pool and he had a FINE TIME!  We got back to the room and they both took a bath to warm up...

I now have them both sleeping in one of the master-suites (yes, I gave them the better one!) I am feeling at peace and now I KNOW this trip was a good idea... I am excited for what the next few days will bring!

Thank you Joe...  this trip is a huge and special gift!

And now?  It is time for this tired out mama to get some rest.  I have a feeling it's going to be crazy/busy this week!
