Deflated... Tired... with a Hurt Finger to Boot...

We got a small package from the USCIS yesterday - we were so hopeful it was some good news on the paperwork we had submitted.  Instead it was a “rejection” letter.

We followed the guidelines to a tee (which was no small task) but still we get rejected with an explanation that would require legal knowledge of the complicated system.  Priority date.  Huh?  What???  Like we should know what this means?

The USCIS office doesn’t seem to have any idea of what to do for these Haitian adoptions – I picture someone in Texas opening up the “mega” paperwork package we sent in, flipping through it and not having a clue what they are dealing with, so they just choose the easy route of “rejection” vs. asking their manager what to do…

Joe and I are feeling very frustrated as we don’t know who is making the decisions on the Haitian adoption cases and/or who we are supposed to go for when we need help.

Bethany Christian Services asked us to scan/email the entire package to them this morning and will send it over to their immigration lawyer, so I guess we will see what happens next.  To be honest, I was afraid pull open the document stack that the USCIS had sent back, as the staple was huge/long!  I ended up stabbing myself trying to get it out (got blood on the rejection letter, which I thought must have some sort of deeper meaning to it…  don’t ya think?)

I sure hope our “testing” of this system will help the other 81 families in some way…  if that happens, it WILL have been worth it.

  1. We have accomplished virtually nothing with our paperwork yet and are thankful you are paving the way for us here. I'm so sorry for all of your frustrations!!! I know you've spent way too much time on this! Someone out there has to know what to do... maybe? Hopefully Bethany will have some success. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
