MORNING
We typically go through the same process each morning (weekdays.)  I usually have about 15 minutes to spend with Samuel from the time he wakes up, to the time I head out the door.  And usually he will start crying when he wakes up (or we will go in and wake him up.)  But this morning was funny…  Joe and I were sitting at the kitchen table having coffee when we heard a door open.  It was Samuel…  He had got out of bed, opened the door and just walked right out.  This was a definite first for him.  Now the concern is that this will become the routine (I guess our little boy is growing up fast!)

SWIMMING (see pic, “shower time”)
Joe took Samuel to his first “official” swim lesson today.  Joe said the instructor was really good with kids (Joe has to be in the pool with him.)  And she told Joe it seemed like Samuel had been through lessons before because he was so comfortable in the water.  He got to swim on his back, go after a toy in the water and work on kicking.  J  I am really glad Joe has this opportunity to do this with him…

POOP (don’t read if you get grossed out…)
So we have NO IDEA how it happened… and thinking back, it was really quite impressive for a 2-year-old.  He was just sitting in his high chair babbling and playing with Oreos and peanut butter (playing because of course he won’t eat them!)  So we went over to get him out and smelled this horrible smell…  Joe took him out to go change his diaper and we found that the crap was all the way up his back…  I don’t just mean a couple of inches out of the diaper… I mean all the way to his neck!  GROSS.  We were both dying; we didn’t know whether to cry, laugh or gag.  It was all over his shirt, the changing pad and made a complete mess.

Joe must have gone through a whole package of wet wipes, while I RAN, heading straight for the bathroom…  I turned on the shower (because I knew this was not the time to have him soaking in gross, poopy bathwater!)  Then I grabbed him and carried him (with 2 arms outstretched) to the shower where cleanliness is plentiful!  Whew, another day saved.  And – as it turns out, he likes to shower alone…  he played and played and didn’t want to get out.  Okay then, now we know!

SCHOOL/DAYCARE (see pic, “waiting to go in and visit a school”)
Joe has been checking out some schools… we think we have this narrowed down to 2.  Joe is pretty much doing the legwork on research and visiting the schools, which I have to say has been a huge burden lifted from my shoulders (thanks Joseph!)

AUCTION TONIGHT
We will be speaking at the Portland Bethany fundraiser tonight... will let you know how it goes.  They want Samuel to attend, so we are hoping he behaves himself!

  1. Jill - I've been following your blog and am glad to hear life is treating you guys well! I had to comment after I read about Samuel walking out of his room... my 2 year old, Nora, started doing that a few weeks ago and we actually like it. Now intead of waking up to crying I wake up to "hi mama" as she comes into my room & stands by the side of the bed (95% of the time I alo hear her door open). She hasn't started coming out in the middle of the night so it seems good. - Abby Kempner Isle
