Back to Church It Is... (finally!)

Joe and I had decided we would start attending church again in August... we figured by then we should be at the point where leaving him at the kids daycare would be okay (with the whole attachment/bonding thing...)

So here we are - August 1, which meant it was time for church (we have been looking forward to this day.) We decided on the 8am service (we always said we wouldn't let a kid disrupt our schedules where we could manage it) so 8am it was. But before we left, we wanted to shave Samuel's hair (which I thought might be a little much to take on.) But for some reason, he didn't care one bit, which made things so easy. Good - task done.

We snapped a few photos, as he looked pretty "dapper" (if I do say so myself!) And off we went.

Getting him in the child care was easy - they looked us up, we were in the system. Handed us a number and whisked him away to the fun-colored room. No issues through the service (our number didn't flash on the screen, whew!) But when we went to pick him up, we peeked in the window and saw that one of the attendants was holding him, while he sang the good-bye song with the kids. Samuel was sobbing... When they brought him out to us, he had those dried, salty tear lines on his face and he was all sad... They said he had been really good and just cried here and there. I think they were waiting for us to be upset and ask questions, but honestly? THIS WAS MUSIC TO OUR EARS! :-) It means he missed us and when he saw us, he lit up and reached out for us... and was pretty clingy afterward. YAY, YIPPEE! (I know that might sound odd to some, but for adoptive parents, it is such a welcome blessing.)

Anyway - we took him to Starbucks for a vanilla steamer and that seemed to perk him right up!  A true Wilkins indeed! :-)
