Help HAITI Act of 2010

While we pray the below update doesn't apply to our case, we are THRILLED that the government is moving forward with plans to expedite citizenship.  This was wonderful to read!

The reason it shouldn't apply to Samuel, is that we should be far enough along where we are given a "Certificate of Citizenship" after the face-to-face interview we have (withouth having to first be granted permanent redident alien.)  But... we shall see what happens - we are praying all goes well and that we hear from the USCIS very soon for that interview!

The "Help Haitian Adoptees Immediately to Integrate Act of 2010," also called the "Help HAITI Act of 2010," has passed the US Senate!  The Help HAITI Act of 2010's intention is to authorize the Department of Homeland Security to adjust the status of the children who entered the US from Haiti on humanitarian parole to permanent resident status.  Once the child's status is adjusted to permanent resident alien, they are eligible to obtain US citizenship.  This will significantly speed up the previous two year process to citizenship that children who entered the US from Haiti under Category II in the humanitarian parole program were facing.  The bill now goes to a committee of senators and representatives to work out the differences in the versions of the bill each approved.  The bill will then go to the President before it becomes law.

We hope to hear additional news regarding details of how families will apply once the bill becomes law, and will post again when we hear more.
