This morning I had to run to the courthouse to drop off the "re-adoption" paperwork for Oregon (for Samuel.) We live at the complete other end of the county line, so this is no small drive... But I made my way to the courthouse, through security, down into a creepy basement, down a long dark hallway (with low-hanging water pipes) and into a room that felt like I was back in the 1960s...
We used an adoption kit that a lawyer created to make it a bit less expensive for parents to use. However, the courts cannot advise you on anything, so you have to make sure to do everything exactly as the kit tells you. I handed it in and they even told me that I had to staple it and advise them if it was in the right order because they couldn't assist. I sure hope we got everything done right - it was a lot of stuff again...
We now have to do about 3 more steps in the process, but once this is done, we should have a birth certificate and his name will be officially changed to Samuel. We then should be able to get his SSN and a passport. Then? Do I dare say it? WE SHOULD BE DONE WITH HIS ADOPTION PAPERWORK?! But we will keep on doing whatever we need to if something else comes up... :-)
