Today we celebrated my 40th birthday. We went to the early church service and then made a stop at Starbucks and did some Christmas gift shopping.
This afternoon, Joe suggested we go on a "birthday walk" as it was so beautiful outside today! I was delighted to get outside and enjoy it - and we felt like a cool family (all walkin' in the leaves, looking at the scenery and laughing in the sunshine - if that makes any sense?!) [insert big grin]
Then instead of doing some extravagant "40th birthday thing" I got to do one of my favorite things in the world... put on my comfy clothes, warm socks and be with the boys, while enjoying a glass of nice Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel. Joe built a nice fire, we lit the candles on my cake and Samuel helped me open my gifts.
Ah... the best. Peace, warm, calm and thoughtful gifts from family. Oh yes - and one very-special, completely out-of-nowhere, surprise gift in a "Tiffany Blue" box with a white ribbon from Joe (that always gets this girls heart racing!)
And tonight? I danced with both Samuel and Luke, in the kitchen, with the lights dimmed to Mannheim Steamrollers "Holy Night." Joe took Samuel down to bed while I continued to dance with Luke until he faded asleep. What precious moments those make.
What a fabulous way to turn 40.
