- Pictures: M&D with Luke, the view from Luke's hospital room.
- Current temp (12:30pm): 99.1 (finally down - let's hope this continues!)
The Dr. Nicholson just stopped by to discuss things. Unfortunately Joe and my parents had just left about 10 minutes prior...
She said she thinks he has two things going on: 1) She said that the E. coli came back positive again, so he definitely has that, which the current antibiotics should be treating. 2) She also thinks he has a virus. Her guess is maybe Roseola**. Typically babies will have a fever for several days, followed by a rash. So she said if we see a rash in the next day or two, we will feel better knowing that is what it is (this isn't for sure - just a guess right now.) She does have cultures going to check viruses (I didn't even know you could do that for a virus) but she said it can take many days to get the results back.
**And when I read about Roseola, it does sound like a good possibility: http://www.babycenter.com/0_roseola_1616.bc
With regard to the ultrasound from yesterday, the radiologist said there might be something with the left kidney that looks inflamed, which might be a pocket of infection. So Luke will definitely get a VCUG test (once he is healthy and past all of these infections.) This is an x-ray with fluids, where they watch the urine flow to see if it shows reflux, which can cause infections.
She is going to take him off of one of the antibiotics (he is on two right now) and we will also take him off of the added fluids (probably impacting his feeding a bit.) And other than that - just keep monitoring the fever. She feels like he should be in the hospital until we see that go away... so, as predicted, it's a waiting game.
It was nice to get some additional visit time with M&D - and it was nice that they got a little "Luke Time." They are headed back to our house now. Later on tonight, my sister and her 2 boys will be at the house too. As I mentioned - it's a bit odd to have family in town and not be home. But SO GLAD all the logistics for this hospital process are working out - huge relief.

Jill, you and your family and especially little Luke are in my prayers. Such a tough thing to go through. My thoughts are with you.

so weird to say "let's hope he gets that rash!"
